1850s French Bookcase in Exceptional Condition
Antique ItemMassive and completely original, unrestored French antique weathered oak bookcase, dating from the mid-1800’s. This highly unique antique French bookcase, might have the most beautiful color oak we have ever seen. This is not some finishers concocted stain out a can (wish we were that good though), but rather, we simply just thoroughly washed our French bookcase using no harsh chemicals and we seemed to have gotten very lucky. From what we can determine, this huge French oak bookcase is all original and has not been restored or refinished. Many of the panes of glass are still original as are the adjustable shelves and the bookcase has the most unusual solid brass door latches, we’ve ever come across. The handles actually pull out towards you and function with ease. Please keep in mind, that although it is made in two pieces (upper and lower halves), it is not going to bend around a corner.
Please note old repair on the front right corner of the crown, image 5.
