Having recently purchased this bookcase locally, there was no know history, so all we can do is make a hypothesis. The backboards are very wide and made from solid pine and you can see that over the years after the wood shrunk, there is evidence of wide tape being adhered to hide the gaps between the boards. That at least is evidence of some age and it not being a recent reproduction. The paint although nice, in our opinion is more recent and the colour can best be described as a French putty grey, that leans slightly to the greens. Others may call it Gustavian grey which probably originated from the French. Nice looking cabinet and unusually shallow at an attractive price.
