Antique French Louis XIII Style commode that has been a bit of a mystery for us. For the longest time we could not decide what to do with an ugly orange-ish color stain. Finally, after months we hand-sanded the antique French commode and stared at it for another couple of months. Recently we had a NY designer come in and comment; “boy that looks great”. So, there you have it, one naked antique French commode with its original hardware and absolutely no finish what-so-ever. The mystery lies in the makers mark on the back side and the thickness of the lower front apron. Whomever constructed this French commode, certainly took no shortcuts and built it to last forever.
