Antique French Walnut Oil Jar from 1800's
French antique farm table made probably during the mid-1800’s from wide walnut boards. This antique French farm table, as you can clearly see was used as a family’s daily dining table and was never restored, which is exactly why we love it so much. Going to France and finding a farm table is a fairly easy task, although most will be oak or cherry. The difficulty becomes trying to find a French farm dining table in walnut, that for over 150-years, miraculously managed to escape the hands of a refinisher, or worse yet, the homeowner. I have to admit, there was some temptation to restore this antique French farm table, for it would invariably be easier to sell, but we simply could not bring ourselves to destroy a 150-year old patina for the sake of a few dollars. So, if you love original patina and can appreciate the beauty of French walnut, then this is a tough table to beat. The drawer is long gone and yes, it is possible to craft another one from old wood, but it won’t be without a cost.
