Antique French Empire Revival Arm Chairs Mahogany c1840
Antique ItemA fine Empire Revival Gilt-Bronze Mounted mahogany pair of chairs. Whenever we look at an antique piece of furniture with bronze castings, we closely inspect the quality of the bronze details, which most often tend to be weak. The pair of French Empire revival chairs we are offering here, are truly exceptional in quality and overall execution. You would be hard pressed to fine a pair of antique French Empire Revival chairs made to this level of refinement and attention to the smallest detail. The French Empire style was a revival of Greek, Roman and Egyptian motifs, which began in the neo classical period and ending after the Directoire period. The subjects for the ormolu decorations were directly pulled from Greek mythology. The Second Empire, or Napoleon III period, is an eclectic mix of Renaissance, Baroque, and Neoclassical styles and began with Louis Napoleon in 1848 and ended in 1870. Update note; we just had our local expert stop by and he dated the pair of chairs to the early 1800's, based on the quality of the bronze castings and the mahogany frames themselves.
