Antique Polish Icon of The Great Martyr Theodore Stratelates (our best hypothesis). Our purported Antique Polish Icon of the Orthodox Icon of Saint Theodore the General, Commander, Stratelates, also known as Theodore of Heraclea and came from Asia Minor. Theodore was best known for killing a giant serpent living on a precipice in the outskirts of Euchaita that had devoured many citizens while spreading fear throughout the countryside. St Theodore was then made the military commander in the city of Heraclea. The icon is on a heavy piece of oak and is clearly old and possibly much older than we are indicating.
