Asian Arm Chair
Antique ItemOne of the most famous figures in 20th-century American design was James Mont, who began working at a Brooklyn electrical supply house and somehow morphed into the go-to interior designer for both the New York scene and Hollywood royalty. Mont’s history is a bit cloudy but they did come from a family of artists who lived in Turkey. Mont was discovered by a member of the Mafioso named Frankie Yale and thus the door opened for Mont to become the decorator for the mob. Mont’s furniture designs and this chair perfectly exemplify his ability to blend Deco, Hollywood Regency, and Modern into one-fold and are now classics. Our particular Mont-inspired arm chair is old enough to have been painted three times and is now possibly ready for the fourth.
