Antique Item
$3,400.00
Beautifully mastered Oil Painting of Colonial James John Forbes Leith who was born, 1778 Greenwich, Royal Borough of Greenwich, Greater London, England There are a couple scenarios exactly when he may have died in Aberdeenshire, Scotland as he seemed to have passed away somewhere between 1841 and 1847. The two stampings on the backside of the canvas indicate that Charles Roberson and Company was a major supplier of canvas to the art trade from 1819 until 1987. The second stamping, I Mundell of Edinburgh, Scotland apparently assembled the artist canvases and being in Scotland, that would indicate that the artist was indeed of Scottish descent. What is unmistakable is the quality of the Portrait for it is truly extraordinary in quality of execution. Scotland, 1860-1870.
Condition: Good. Wear consistent with age and use.
**Measurements provided include the frame. The canvas is 30.25" high and 25" wide.
