Jacques-Louis David Print authenticated by André Schoeller art historian, expert at Hôtel Drouot auction house (1879-1955) on June 28th 1949. Jacques-Louis David 1748-1825 was a well-known French artist who was awarded with the Prix of Rome and the Commander of the Legion of Honor. This particular drawing is featured in the 1953 Louis David book of drawings by Raoul Solar in Monaco and is catalog number 61. Jacques-Louis David was born in Paris, France and was one of the most pre-eminent artists of his generation. Louis David became a supporter of the French Revolution and befriended Maximilien Robespierre, and became the dictator of the arts under the French Republic. Louis David was imprisoned after Robespierre's fall and aligned himself with Napoleon and developed his Empire style. Sadly, we have no idea what year this was printed in and are still trying to research the actual printing date.
