C Meigh & Son Pottery - for over almost a century, was run successfully by Charles Meigh, beginning in 1834, when he took over the helm from his father, Joe and worked out of “Old Hall Pottery”, Hanley, Staffordshire from 1805, producing high quality stoneware and earthenware, finally closing in 1902. Meigh exhibited at the Great Exhibition and in 1886 won a medal. When researching Meigh Pottery, I could not find any platters of this scale, for it must have been made for the holidays, for it surely will hold a Turkey or any size roast. This particular very large platter come from the private collection of an English antique dealer who was from the town of Leek. There are no prior repairs visible. C MEIGH & SON C M & S 1851-1861.
