U.S.S. New York was a Navy battleship and the lead ship of her class. Named after the state of New York, she was the first to carry the 14-inch, 45-caliber gun. The ship was part of the U.S. Navy which was dispatched to reinforce the British Fleet in the North Sea, at the later part of World War I. She was involved in at least two German U-boats incidents, and is the only US ship to have sunk a U-boat in the war. The USS New York provided naval support for the invasion of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. She received three battle stars for her service. This is an original photograph that hung in the Glenview, Illinois Naval Air Station.
