Take your pick, carboy, demijohn or jimmyjohn, they all refer to the same glass vessel. Carboy's originate from the Persian word; qarabah, while demijohn comes courtesy of the French, for dame-jeanne, or Lady Jane and derives from circa 1700. Demijohn's refer to any large glass bottle, with a small neck capable of holding between 5 and 16 gallons of a liquid.
