Carboy, demijohn or jimmyjohn, they all refer to a glass vessel. Carboy's originated from the Persian word; qarabah, while demijohn comes from the French, for dame-jeanne, or Lady Jane from the 1700's. Demijohn's refer to any large glass bottle, with a small neck capable of holding between 5 and 16 gallons.
