Antique Marble Bathtub Several Hundred of Years Old recently imported from Europe.
Antique Marble Bathtub Hundreds of Years Old and therein lies our first dilemma. Having been in the Antique business for over 35-years we are rarely stymied and generally if you find yourself in that predicament, we would simple find someone smarter than us and get an experts’ opinion. Not so in this case and after obtaining the opinion of several experts this is what we have concluded. The marble was most likely quarried during the Roman Period from the Carrara quarry. However, only one in three historians or antiquities professionals believe it to be made
during the Roman period. More likely a period of more than 300-years ago, but exactly when is virtually impossible to pin down. The Marble Tub also could have been hand-carved in Italy or Greece, and I believe the unusual, canted corners are throwing everyone off. What I can categorically state is that the patina is incredible and 100% natural and not contrived. The interior and exterior of the tub were absolutely caved using hand chisels. There are no visible repairs, and our Marble Tub can absolutely be made functional. One large clue is the depth, and Roman Tubs were made deep so that the water level would reach your chin and that is the case with this Marble Tub.
