Swedish Painted Armoire dating from the 1700’s and for the vast part remaining unrestored. Strangely enough our Swedish Armoire was removed from a Grade II Historic property in Wendover, England that was built in the 1600’s. We’ve probably had several hundred old painted pieces of furniture pass through our store over the past 35 years, but I can’t remember the last time we had one with old paint this good. The Swedish painted armoire could be the benchmark for restorers looking to learn how to create an antique painted finish. The only restoration that we can detect are the bun feet which are very typical of old armories that sat on a stone floor which were frequently washed. To sum this up in a few words; they just don’t get any better.
Sweden, 1780.
Condition: Good. Wear consistent with age and use. Minor losses. Minor fading. Other than the bun feet there are no signs of any recent restoration.
