An important “très grand" Antique French Louis XV Armoire probably from the Burgundy region of France, circa 1760-1780. Constructed from solid French cherrywood which has naturally darkened over the past 200-plus years and transformed into a rich, deep color. The finish on our Antique French Armoire appears to have never been stripped and redone, only carefully waxed which created a beautiful patina and virtually impossible to duplicate today. Unusual with a double bonnet top and still has its functional crémaillère de porte, fancy description for the locking handle on the inside of the left door. The shelves were replaced with 1.5” thick wood, so they should never sag regardless of what is placed on them. There is little to no evidence of any major restoration work and only an extra board placed on the outside back for added support. Overall, this is one of the finest Antique French Armoires we have ever had the pleasure of offering for sale. Complete with a functioning original lock and key.
